Kitchen Manager (part-time)

Judeo-Christian Outreach Center (JCOC) operates a food pantry and dining hall for the hungry and homeless on its main campus. JCOC is currently seeking an experienced Kitchen Manger (part-time) to support fulltime Kitchen Manager in overseeing daily operations including Community Dinner, Food Pantry, Family Food Box, and Food Rescue programs. Candidate will train and supervise volunteer groups who prepare meals for the community every day of the year.

Essential duties include: managing day to day operations; managing inventory; overseeing storage and equipment inspections; ensuring compliance with Health Code regulations and standard for quality, cleanliness, and workplace safety; training and supervising volunteers who prep and serve food, wash dishes, and perform other janitorial duties; and have an understanding of LIFO, FIFO and HACCP and complete and submit required reports.

Qualified applicants must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in a commercial kitchen and/or catering operations for large groups and a High School Diploma. Applicant must have supervisorial experience; strong knowledge of public health and food safety policies and practices; working knowledge of MS Office and Internet; and have the physical stamina and ability to stand for at least 6 hours and lift a minimum of 35 pounds. Applicant should also have a strong ability to assess resources; implement a plan and evaluate results; have excellent decision making and organizational skills; be a self-starter with ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines; and have strong interpersonal skills with ability to establish effective working relationships across diverse populations.

Part-time working 20-25 hours weekly. Schedule requires every other weekend and some holidays. Must have a valid driver’s license with good DMV record, background check and drug screening required. Residential Services Worker (multiple positions available)

JCOC is seeking to hire individuals to fill the role of Residential Services Workers’ (RSW’s) in their Emergency Housing Program (Singles Shelter). The Residential Services Worker is responsible for monitoring the activities of Shelter participants and for ensuring compliance with established rules and guidelines within the program.

The JCOC Emergency Housing Program (Singles Shelter) is located within the Virginia Beach Housing Resource Center located at 104 N. Witchduck Rd and operates 7 days weekly. The program temporarily houses homeless singles while they work with JCOC staff to secure permanent housing in the shortest time possible. RSW’s are needed to monitor and utilize a trauma informed approach with homeless clients living in shelter. He/she is also responsible for ensuring the safety of participants and the security and sanitation at the Housing Resource Center. JCOC is seeking motivated staff to fulfill overnight (12a-8a) shifts that are needed every Saturday, Sunday, holidays or to provide coverage for full-time staff with approved “time off” requests. The Residential Services Worker provides direct support to participants as needed. Responsibilities will include: maintaining a comprehensive written record of events in the program log that occur during shift, maintain participant sign in/out sheets, attendance log as well as all other logbooks and records, conduct intakes, assessments and referrals as needed.

The position will also review each set of individual intake forms for completion of individual’s data and information having individual sign and complete staff witness signature and date, control contraband in facility through general observation, room and package/purse searches if deemed necessary and ensure facility and faith site cleanliness and monitor participant cleaning assignments when directed. The position is required to provide supervision throughout their shift. The successful candidate must be able to effectively communicate with a high-risk population to minimize potential issues. The candidate must be able to document effectively and be willing to work as part of a team to promote the goals of the program and agency. A 4-year college degree is preferred. Experience working with at-risk population is required. Knowledge of Housing First principals’ and SPDAT assessments is preferred. Drug screen and background check is required.
