Judeo-Christian Outreach Center (JCOC) is seeking a uniquely qualified individual to fill the leadership role of Assistant Director. The position will provide overall supervision, leadership and guidance for the Day Support and Emergency Housing Programs. All programs serve the most vulnerable homeless individuals in the Virginia Beach community. The position will be located in Virginia Beach’s Housing Resource Center located at 104 N. Witchduck Rd.
The Assistant Director evaluates and provides on-going supervision and technical assistance to the Housing Support Specialists and Residential Services Workers working in Day Support and Emergency Shelter to ensure homeless clients are being engaged through a trauma informed approach and receive services and community referrals to help them transition out of homelessness into permanent housing in the shortest amount of time possible.
The candidate must display strong leadership qualities and have the ability to train, motivate and communicate effectively with others. Required skills for the position include: effective leadership and organizational skills, knowledge of best practices to address homelessness, excellent communication skills (both written and oral) in order to maintain relationships with a wide variety of individuals including staff , board, volunteers, community stakeholders and organizational partners, team-oriented approach to client services and program development, willingness to work a diverse schedule, facilitation of weekly staff meetings and exhibit a high level of honesty and integrity at all times. The position reports to the Program Director.
Minimum requirements are a 4-year degree in Human Services, Social Work or any related field. The position requires at least 3 years of supervisory/management experience with a high-risk population in shelter or residential facility that provides comprehensive services, housing plan assistance and job skills training to the homeless, mentally ill, and chemically dependent populations. Candidates with experience using the HMIS system and/or certified in SOAR will be strongly considered. Knowledge of housing first principals, trauma informed care and SPDAT assessments are required. Kitchen Manager (Part-Time)
Judeo-Christian Outreach Center (JCOC) operates a food pantry and dining hall for the hungry and homeless on its main campus. JCOC is currently seeking an experienced Kitchen Manger (part-time) to support fulltime Kitchen Manager in overseeing daily operations including Community Dinner, Food Pantry, Family Food Box, and Food Rescue programs. Candidate will train and supervise volunteer groups who prepare meals for the community every day of the year.
Essential duties include: managing day to day operations; managing inventory; overseeing storage and equipment inspections; ensuring compliance with Health Code regulations and standard for quality, cleanliness, and workplace safety; training and supervising volunteers who prep and serve food, wash dishes, and perform other janitorial duties; and have an understanding of LIFO, FIFO and HACCP and complete and submit required reports.
Qualified applicants must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in a commercial kitchen and/or catering operations for large groups and a High School Diploma. Applicant must have supervisorial experience; strong knowledge of public health and food safety policies and practices; working knowledge of MS Office and Internet; and have the physical stamina and ability to stand for at least 6 hours and lift a minimum of 35 pounds. Applicant should also have a strong ability to assess resources; implement a plan and evaluate results; have excellent decision making and organizational skills; be a self-starter with ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines; and have strong interpersonal skills with ability to establish effective working relationships across diverse populations.
Part-time working 20-25 hours weekly. Schedule requires every other weekend and some holidays. Must have a valid driver’s license with good DMV record, background check and drug screening required.
