RESIDENTIAL SERVICES WORKER (multiple positions available)

JCOC is seeking to hire individuals to fill the role of Residential Services Workers’ (RSW’s) in their Emergency Housing Program (Singles Shelter). The Residential Services Worker is responsible for monitoring the activities of Shelter participants and for ensuring compliance with established rules and guidelines within the program.

The JCOC Emergency Housing Program (Singles Shelter) is located within the Virginia Beach Housing Resource Center located at 104 N. Witchduck Rd and operates 7 days weekly. The program temporarily houses homeless singles while they work with JCOC staff to secure permanent housing in the shortest time possible. RSW’s are needed to monitor and utilize a trauma informed approach with homeless clients living in shelter. He/she is also responsible for ensuring the safety of participants and the security and sanitation at the Housing Resource Center. JCOC is seeking motivated staff to fulfill overnight (12a-8a) shifts that are needed every Saturday, Sunday, holidays or to provide coverage for full-time staff with approved “time off” requests. The Residential Services Worker provides direct support to participants as needed. Responsibilities will include: maintaining a comprehensive written record of events in the program log that occur during shift, maintain participant sign in/out sheets, attendance log as well as all other logbooks and records, conduct intakes, assessments and referrals as needed.

The position will also review each set of individual intake forms for completion of individual’s data and information having individual sign and complete staff witness signature and date, control contraband in facility through general observation, room and package/purse searches if deemed necessary and ensure facility and faith site cleanliness and monitor participant cleaning assignments when directed. The position is required to provide supervision throughout their shift. The successful candidate must be able to effectively communicate with a high-risk population to minimize potential issues. The candidate must be able to document effectively and be willing to work as part of a team to promote the goals of the program and agency. A 4-year college degree is preferred. Experience working with at-risk population is required. Knowledge of Housing First principals’ and SPDAT assessments is preferred. Drug screen and background check is required. JCOC is seeking a highly motivated self-starter, compassionate and organized person to fill the position of Housing Stabilization Specialist (HSS) with their Rapid Rehousing Initiative. The Housing sital role in rapidly re-housing homeless clients into permanent housing by assisting with housing location, providing short term financial assistance, and housing stability services specific to the needs of the client in their housing environment. Clients are referred through a Coordinated Entry and Assessment System process.

Responsibilities and services include but are not limited to: housing identification, determination of short term financial assistance for security deposit/monthly rent, eviction prevention, landlord liaison activities, intake interviews for assigned cases, maintenance of client files, regularly scheduled meetings with assigned clients in the community, social & life skills trainings as needed, employment assistance and referral, education assistance and referral, mental health and substance abuse referrals, financial literacy training, as well as any other issues pertaining to the client’s needs. The HSS also focuses on in depth assessment of client’s needs and goals using evidence based assessment tools through a trauma-informed approach. HSS will communicate appropriate assistance programs available to the client; assisting the client in determining which programs best meet their needs, assisting the client in setting up appointments with these programs, and in some cases providing transportation assistance.

Qualifications for the position include but are not limited to: case management and assessment experience with homeless individuals or families, experience with direct service delivery, experience with crisis intervention regarding issues such as homelessness, mental health & substance abuse, knowledge & experience with service agencies & resources, excellent time management, organizational & communication skills & the willingness to work as a team to promote the goals of the program and agency. Experience working with landlords is a plus. The position is full-time with medical & dental benefits and will require working mostly days and potentially some evenings and weekends. The position reports to the Program Director and requires a 4-year degree in Human Services, Social Work or any related field. Potential candidate must have a valid driver’s license. Knowledge of Housing First principles and Rapid Re-Housing Strategies is required. Drug screen and background check required.
