Gala Guests Encouraged to
“Rip the Script”!
Many of JCOC’s family of dedicated community leaders, corporate partners, and individuals attended our annual Black & White Gala on October 14th at The Westin Virginia Beach Town Center. Guests enjoyed Symphonicity’s string quartet during cocktail hour and a three-course meal.
Excitement was in the air as award-winning journalist and television/radio host Barbara Hamm Lee served as the evening’s emcee and co-auctioneer. Former NFL offensive lineman, motivational speaker and author Shawn Harper shared his inspiring journey and encouraged our guests to, “rip the script” others have written for us. His former Indiana University football teammate and JCOC’s executive director Todd Walker told everyone the incredible impact they had been a part of over the last year – announcing $12M of the $14M needed to rebuild our campus has been raised.
Campaign chair Allison Stanton McDuffie had the honor of surprising Todd and sharing due to a generous anonymous donor and the Board of Directors, JCOC’s new dining hall will be named the Todd A.J. Walker Dining Hall!
Special thanks to our sponsors, auction item donors, Rev. Dr. Michael Simone, Astro Enterprises, David O’Dell Photography, Michael H. Schmitt Photography, Symphonicity, and JCOC’s Board of Directors and staff.
